DESIGN INTERN at
Madi Ko moved to Alaska during middle school. She soon connected to the state through its beauty and the Native Youth Olympics (NYO) community. After living in Fairbanks and Palmer, Madi moved to Rhode Island, where she studies Graphic Design at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD).
The power of design and visual communication has always interested Madi. In high school, she saw how she could both be creative and help the communities she cared about. These priorities aligned while serving two terms as Public Relations Officer for the Alaska Association of Student Governments. Madi was also one of two Alaska delegates for the 2017 U.S. Senate Youth Program (USSYP), where she visited
Washington, D.C. for the first time and realized all of the potential paths to public service. As an intern in Senator Murkowski’s Washington D.C. office, she was inspired by how staffers from a variety of backgrounds and interests could all come together to serve Alaskans. She returned to D.C. the next summer as an intern in the White House Photo Office.
Madi is looking forward to working for the Arctic community and is excited by the potential of social media, design, and digital strategy to support the Arctic Encounter mission.
